Our Stock Works

advertisement

Stock photography websites seem two a penny these days, with brand leaders such as Corbis, Getty and iStockPhoto leading the way. Until now, however, there hasn't been a real middle ground for people who are looking for images at a price somewhere inbetween hundreds of dollars, and a few cents. Photographers have historically not been given a good deal from stock websites, with poor commission and no prospect of big earnings.

A new company seems to be stirring - Our Stock Works - offering high quality stock and a 50% commission for photographers. This is a huge step forward in stock as far as the photographer is concerned, as they have a real potential to make money. Many other sites only offer 10% or 20% rates, and take a disproportionate cut.

The site is due to launch in Summer 2006, and they now have a holding page up. Head over, check it out, and if you're a photographer get yourself signed up to earn from your talent!

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

hi David, great new site. Let's really hope they do offer better prices to the smaller companies needing quality stock photography for their print ads and brochures without going bankrupt.
I wrote something myself at http://blog.eight.nl/articles/2006/03/13/the-new-web-crooks-stock-photography-companies

So exactly what will differentiate this from say istock? Higher prices? How will they ensure higher quality? Exactly what makes this place different to any other out there?

The main differentiating factor is the commission we are offering photographers. Because we are able to give them a better deal, we receive a greater vareity and quality of images. We have a simple, easy to use website which makes it easy to find the image you are looking for and we're offering several new features which won't have been done anywhere else previously.

Because we are a smaller organisation than somewhere such as iStock, we're able to offer a much higher level of customer service and support. We deal with photographers and designers individually and directly, making the experience of using Our Stock Works a really enjoyable one.
